WI: The Sunrise Ranch WE Spring Clinic

Event Information

We are excited to bring to you the first Working Equitation Licenced Shows at the Sunrise Ranch. For this weekend we are flying in the well-loved W.E. judge Cari Schwartz of Oregon.

Cari has competed in W.E. successfully through Master’s Level and has judged Working Equitation for many years. Cari has also trained/ competed to the highest levels in Dressage, Eventing, Hunter/ Jumpers, and Equitation, earning her first USDF Bronze Medal in 1980 and Individual/ Team Gold Medals in US Eventing at the Junior Olympics. Since her first Working Equitation competition in 2013, Cari has been an avid competitor, instructor, judge, and promoter of this sport which she is so passionate about!

The 2022 Sunrise Ranch Spring Working Equitation shows are two full separate events, one on Saturday, and one on Sunday. We offer this specifically for those wanting to make the most of the weekend and compete both days.

Besides the standard Ease of Handling obstacle course, Dressage test, and Speed Challenge, we will be offering the Cattle Trial each day. Here at the Sunrise Ranch, we are proud of our Scottish Highland herd and enthusiastic to be supporting the skill of working cows from horseback by offering this part of Working Equitation at our shows. Aside from some really unique awards for each level, we are donating one magnificent Long-horned scull art piece to the horse and rider team showing the highest level ofexcellence in partnership as evaluated by the judge from both days’ competition! See the comments on this post for some photos of this award.

We have asked Cari Schwartz to come a day early so that we can offer group lessons on Friday. Don’t miss this chance to give you and your horse an opportunity to practice with us on excellence in the arenas under Cari’s guidance before the weekend shows!

We are limiting the number of entries for these shows, so be sure to contact us soon to get your spot reserved! The Google form we have created will clearly provide all the details, as well as allow you to tailor your weekend to your goals and needs.

USAWE Logo design by Alexandra Crippen of Crippen Designs.

The logo represents the four trials of Working Equitation and highlights the diversity for which the sport is known in the United States.

  • The first image depicts a mule, being ridden in western tack and attire in the Dressage trial.
  • The second image showcases an Iberian horse in traditional Iberian tack and attire performing in the EOH trial.
  • The third image shows a horse of indeterminate breeding and a rider in English tack and attire, competing in the Speed trial.
  • Together, all three riders represent a team competing together in the Cattle trial. Although the cow is not shown directly, the three teammates are working in concert. The image is intended to elicit the feeling of excitement and movement as the team moves their designated cow toward the holding pen to the far right, off the page. (Think of it as a "silent cow", much as the letter "e" at the end of a word is often referred to as "the silent 'e'" in recognition of its existence without being read aloud).
