REGION 6

By: Holly Linz — Region 6 Director

First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who supported the Eastern Zone Championships, it was a huge success! We went down to the beautiful Three Bulls facility in Bulls Gap,TN, had the best weather possible for a Championship show. 40 riders across ALL Seven Levels!! As a huge Bonus, USAWE had its first WAWE qualifying ride! Congratulations to all the riders, the organizers, and volunteers. It was an incredible opportunity to ride with Polly Limond, and Fiona Price, our WAWE judge. Region 6 was well represented, we had the only mule in the competition. 🙂 Heather Greenstone and her mule Maggie had wonderful rides to finish their very first Championship. Working Equitation East stayed on schedule through the weekend and finished Sunday with a very challenging Cattle Trial. There were 4  teams in all and they put in some solid effort to corral the little black velcro cows! Overall, everyone displayed the friendship, teamwork, and true horsemanship through the whole weekend that makes this sport so great. At the show, many folks donated a multitude of items being gathered for recent disaster relief efforts, and all the procceds from the silent auction were also donated to aid the immediate area.

Look for the feedback form to provide your input to make the next event that much better. If you did not receive it, but have input, reach out and I can forward it to you.  As we move into Fall, be on the lookout for clinics and unmounted educational opportunities. Region 6 is looking at focusing on some new opportunities through the winter, and a regional coordination meeting for next season is being planned for in the next few weeks.

Finally, USAWE elections will be available for voting soon – be sure to cast your ballot once the email comes out!

October Activity Report for Oak Spring Equestrian

The show season has come to a close at Oak Spring Equestrian. We held a total of 5 schooling shows. Each show was full with 15 – 18 riders, from Intro to Novice B. It was the goal of OSE to host these shows for a few particular reasons. 1. To give competitors a low-key environment to school green and first-time horses & riders. 2. There are some competitors that love to show but do not have the desire to show at a licensed competition. 3. To allow all the chance to do well and maybe even earn a ribbon. There is a year-end awards banquet scheduled for November 23. All that participated are invited, along with the judges, volunteers and sponsors. Cost is $10 per person. It will include appetizers, dinner, drinks and dessert. Due to some sponsor donations we have some great prizes to be awarded. A cooler for the champions in the divisions, a halter for the reserve champions and many more great prizes for 3rd-6th place, along with handing out some special awards. The banquet will be held in the shop at Oak Spring Equestrian at 1pm.
