REGION 2’s New Director!

Glynna Hoekstra
Valley Center, CA
Hello, thank you for electing me as your Region 2 Director.  I’m a lifelong horsewoman, starting as a youth riding “ranch horses”, washouts or castoffs from ranches near my home in northern Arizona.   As an adult I discovered the traditions of the Californio Vaqueros, jaquima a freno (hackamore to bridle).  I am dedicated to keeping these traditions alive as an effective and functional style of horsemanship and stockmanship.

In 2017 I was introduced to Working Equitation, and quickly became an enthusiastic supporter.  I’ve often shared that Working Equitation made me a better horsewoman and continues to help hone my skills.  I competed through Level 4 with my beloved mare KaChoo, and am currently schooling Level 4 with my bridlehorse Rosie.  I’ve hosted both rated and schooling shows at our ranch in Valley Center, California, and I’m a firm believer that the Cattle Trial is critically important to our sport.

My goal as Regional Director is to enthusiastically engage with our membership to hear what is important to you, and to ensure our Region is actively considered in national decision making.  I’d like to increase our visibility and bring more riders to the sport through outreach with local pony and riding clubs, demonstrations and booths at equestrian events and social media outreach (all within USAWE standards).  I will work to ensure our sport remains accessible to ALL levels, from those just beginning their Working Equitation journey to those who are competing for a spot on our future International Team.  This is truly a sport for all equestrians, and I’m excited to do all I can to help it continue to grow and thrive.  Please contact me anytime with suggestions, comments, concerns, or just to say hello!
