WE Post: International Committee Update July 2024

International Committee Update July 2024

USA First Ever WAWE Championship Qualifier Held in October 2024

The USAWE would like to share the next step in our partnership with the World Association for Working Equitation (WAWE). USAWE has been approved to hold its first American International Competition and its first World Championship Qualifying Competition.

These events are the first appearance of USAWE on the Working Equitation world stage – the first notification that we are serious about joining WAWE on the international level!

Two types of competitions have been designated by WAWE: International Competitions and Qualifying Competitions.

A WAWE designated International Competition is open to any WAWE competitor (US or non-US) for international score accrual. Scores achieved at these events will count toward placement in the WAWE International Horse and Rider ranking. USAWE is encouraging event managers to consider registering their events as International Competitions (through the International Committee) to increase the number of opportunities available for USAWE riders to optimize rider placement in the WAWE International Horse and Rider ranking. Specifics about and visibility into the WAWE International Horse and Rider ranking are yet to be announced. However, International Competition scores cannot be used to qualify for the World Championship.

To qualify for the opportunity to represent USAWE at the World Championship, Master Level riders must participate and achieve a qualifying score in a WAWE designated Qualifier Competition. Typically WAWE countries each only have a single (1) Qualifier Competition per year. However, WAWE has given approval to USAWE to hold up to three (3) Qualifier Competitions. (Locations yet to be determined.) Canada and Australia have also been approved for multiple events. Any Qualifier Competition in a WAWE member country is open to any WAWE competitor from any country.

Riders interested in attending a Qualifier Competition held in conjunction with a USAWE Championship Competition do not have to have qualified for the Championship Event itself. It is not yet clear if scores from a Qualifying Competition will apply to the International Horse and Rider ranking.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the International Committee at international@usawe.org.
