REGION 6

By: Cera Olsen — Region 6 Director

Region 6: Hope everyone is staying warm and riding when it is possible between the Winter Weather!

Anyone attending the World Horse Expo 27 Feb-2 Mar, swing by our booth or watch the Region 6 Demos on Thursday and Friday. Got some very talented riders to represent USAWE! If anyone is interested in volunteering to assist with the World Horse Expo in PA, Region 6 will have a table. Contact Kim Hillyer to volunteer.

Keep an eye on the Region 6 & 7 Calendar for the events across the region, generously managed by Barb from Oak Spring Equestrian. If you are putting on an event, please reach out to Barb to get it added the calendar.

Coming up fast is the Train to Win #3 – 22/23 March. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer or Audit the event and learn from WAWE Master Rider Gilberto Fillippe, contact Barbara Price, the IC Committee Chair.

New England Working Equitation Updates

It may be snowing along with freezing temperatures in the Northeast but that doesn’t keep NEWE members from riding and learning all they can before the 2025 show season. Monthly clinics continue to be held at Equanimity Farm in NH as well as our Virtual Learning Sessions which have been very well attended. In February we went over the new rule changes and next month Doreen Atkinson “S” Judge and Masters Level rider, will be our guest speaker. Virtual meetings are free for NEWE members and open to non members for a small fee, learn more. We currently have fifty four members!

In January, NEWE Founder Stephanie Hayes and new member Shelby Ballantine went to Las Vegas, NV to attend the USAWE Judges Seminar given by WAWE Judge Claudia Matos from Portugal. It was a very educational event and so fun to meet dozens of USAWE members from around the country.

There are a lot clinics on the schedule already for 2025 and Licensed shows in July and August will be held. Check out the calendar for details.

Happy Riding!

NYSWE Updates

The Chat & Learn series is in full swing!

You Can join NYSWE for these informal, educational sessions. We’re bringing you some of the most experienced Working Equitation riders, coaches, and judges from across the US to share their expertise. Sessions are free for members and $15 for non-members. We just had a great time with Amy Star, discussing the USAWE Rules Changes.

The remaining sessions are:
  • March 20th – Your Course Walk and Ride – Michelle Lackey
  • April 17th – WE EOH and Speed obstacles – Susan Watkins.

We have two back-to-back shows in Schaghticoke, NY once again on 31 May and 1 June. We’re working to add a Friday clinician. More information to follow!
