President’s Letter

By: Chris Stanko

Happy Spring,

Here in Colorado, spring is trying really hard to stay;  at least on the lower elevations.  The mountains are another story.  I don’t know when my place will melt off with 8 ft walls of snow.  Though we  do need the moisture..

Show season is well on its way across the country.  So far we have over 100 shows on the books. Those are just the licensed shows.  There are probably at least that many schooling shows happening. It is a busy time for everyone.

There are lots of things unfolding with WAWE and our International Committee. Nothing solid yet; but lots of ideas and conversations going on.  We will let you know information soon!

The BOD has really stepped up to the plate and become a working board.  We are moving forward in layering structure and planning for future growth.  All of our committees have been very hard at work. The attention to detail behind the scenes is HUGE and very time consuming. I for one appreciate each and every committee, chair and committee member, thank you for your commitment to USAWE.  It truly takes a dedicated team!

USAWE has the LOC seminar coming up in June.  Last year the seminar focused on Dressage. This year, the LOC is hosting a Ease of Handling seminar June 15-18, 2023 in Woodstock Illinois. We have International WAWE Judge Jose Andres Benito, from Spain, judging the show and teaching the seminar. If you’re  not signed up, the clock is ticking.  Don’t miss out!

Thank you for your membership. Have a great year with USA Working Equitation!

USAWE Logo design by Alexandra Crippen of Crippen Designs.

The logo represents the four trials of Working Equitation and highlights the diversity for which the sport is known in the United States.

  • The first image depicts a mule, being ridden in Western tack and attire in the Dressage trial.
  • The second image showcases an Iberian horse in traditional Iberian tack and attire performing in the EOH trial.
  • The third image shows a horse of indeterminate breeding and a rider in English tack and attire, competing in the Speed trial.
  • Together, all three riders represent a team competing together in the Cattle trial. Although the cow is not shown directly, the three teammates are working in concert. The image is intended to elicit the feeling of excitement and movement as the team moves their designated cow toward the holding pen to the far right, off the page. (Think of it as a “silent cow”, much as the letter “e” at the end of a word is often referred to as “the silent ‘e'” in recognition of its existence without being read aloud).
