USAWE Licensed Officials Program

The USAWE Licensed Officials Program includes our judges and technical delegates. It is built on a foundation of integrity, knowledge, training, and consistency—the core values that ensure fair, safe, and professional competition. Licensed officials carry a unique responsibility: to uphold the rules of our sport with honesty, impartiality, and respect for every participant.

Through comprehensive education and ongoing training, officials develop the knowledge required to interpret and apply standards with accuracy, giving officials the tools to handle complex situations with confidence and fairness.

Every decision must reflect not only a clear understanding of the rules, but also a commitment to applying them uniformly across all competitors and competitions.

Above all, our officials are guided by integrity. Acting with professionalism, accountability, and impartial judgment, they serve as stewards of the sport. The Licensed Officials Program provides the structure, training, and support to help each official succeed in this role and to ensure that every competition reflects the highest standards of fairness and excellence.

The Licensed Officials Program Requirements explain how to apply to be a candidate.

USAWE welcomes USDF L in-progress or graduates to apply. The USDF program provides a strong basis of dressage fundamentals as well as the logistics and efficacy of judging, which can be applied to judging working equitation. We have underserved locations across the US that would benefit from local L judge availability.
