Regional Reports

R1 Oct. 2021

By: Kristine Strasburger

The big news for Region 1 this month is that we finally have an Affiliate Organization in Alaska!  Woohoo!  Let’s all give a big cheer and a round of support to Kelly Walsh-Schwab of Wasilla, Alaska for adding AK Livin’ The Dream Ranch to our growing list of Affiliate Organizations.  They offer dressage and riding/horsemanship lessons to help promote the fun sport of Working Equitation for the Mid-Alaska area.  They hope to hold clinics in the near future.  Check them out here!

We can all do something to help Working Equitation grow in the United States.  What can you do to help?  Connect with me if you need support.  That’s what I’m here for.

Until next time, happy riding!

Region 1 Reminders

Don’t forget to check out the USAWE Calendar for events near you.  New events are added all the time, so check back often.

Also, check the USAWE Affiliate Organizations page to find an AO near you.  Don’t have an Affiliate Organization near you?  Why don’t you get some friends together and form one?  Don’t have any friends? (just kidding)  Individuals can also apply to become an Affiliate Organization.  The USAWE Affiliate Organization Program has a new email address:

USAWE Logo design by Alexandra Crippen of Crippen Designs.

The logo represents the four trials of Working Equitation and highlights the diversity for which the sport is known in the United States.

  • The first image depicts a mule, being ridden in Western tack and attire in the Dressage trial.
  • The second image showcases an Iberian horse in traditional Iberian tack and attire performing in the EOH trial.
  • The third image shows a horse of indeterminate breeding and a rider in English tack and attire, competing in the Speed trial.
  • Together, all three riders represent a team competing together in the Cattle trial. Although the cow is not shown directly, the three teammates are working in concert. The image is intended to elicit the feeling of excitement and movement as the team moves their designated cow toward the holding pen to the far right, off the page. (Think of it as a "silent cow", much as the letter "e" at the end of a word is often referred to as "the silent 'e'" in recognition of its existence without being read aloud).
