Rose Watt has been competing in Working Equitation since 2009. While competing at the Eastern Regional Andalusian and Lusitano Show at Mount Holyhoke College in Massachusetts she was asked if she wanted to try the new Working Equitation section of the show. Having competed in trail divisions with other breeds, as well as Dressage, she joined the event. She said she hasn’t looked back since. Working Equitation was the perfect sport to use the skills gathered throughout her career.

Beginning with a Riding Master’s dual major degree from Meredith Manor over 40 years ago, she and her students have shown successfully in Working Equitation, IALHA Nationals Morgan Nationals, Regional Dressage, and Quarter Horse Western Riding events. She has also served as a Dressage and Show Jumping coach for Pony Club Nationals. In 2019 she was named Professional Horsewoman of the Year for IALHA. Adapting training to the different disciplines and breeds is something she greatly enjoys.

Rose Watt is an avid learner. She worked in the education field as a teacher, and high school counselor for 27.5 years. With a true love of teaching, Rose’s diverse horse experiences along with a Master’s degree in Counseling gives her a unique skill set to understand both rider and horse. Working with horses and riders to gain confidence and skills is a never-ending passion. Rose credits her early introduction to classical dressage training to the late Miguel Tavora, Chief Instructor and Director of the Portuguese Mafra School. In the early years of dressage in the USA Rose also worked with Kay Meredith and Dagmar Zimmerman.

Rose has competed through Level 5 Working Equitation with the Andalusian stallion, Sincerrey Santiago. They achieved Reserve Championships in Region 6 for many years. The pair spent their final year traveling to 4 WE regions within the USA and finished their travels at the IALHA Nationals in Texas, winning both the Western Pleasure and the Trail competitions. Rose’s new PRE mare is Valentina YR and in 2023 they were Zone Champion at Level 1 at both the Eastern and Central Zone Championships.

Rose Watt believes Working Equitation is the perfect sport. It has a logical progression through the levels and allows both horse and rider to safely enjoy dressage, obstacles, jumping and speed. It’s the perfect place to gather, learn, and to enjoy great people and great events.
