REGION 6

By: Kim Hillyer

Hello Region 6 members!

Well, it’s here!  This weekend (Sept 16 – 19) is Region 6’s Regional Championships and A rated show.  I am looking forward to seeing members from throughout our region, and seeing some great competition.  Kat Waters and NEWE have worked tremendously hard to put together a top notch event for this region.  There is a fabulous schedule of events for the competitors starting with the “Sixers Mixer” on Thursday evening, a Cookout on Friday evening, and Saturday night a Pizza party sponsored by ERAHC.  There are many great sponsors that have helped make this great event possible.

Judges Rebecca L Algar and Tarrin Warren will be the judge’s panel for the championships.  Also, Senior Judge Doreen Atkinson will be providing a fantastic educational opportunity to the show by offering Live ringside discussion on scoring throughout the trials.

There are still shows and clinics on the schedule after the Regional championships, so take a look at the calendar to see what is happening near you.  There is also one more Sanctioned show at Oak Springs Equestrian on Oct. 9.

Check in with your closest AO to see what is going on.  Lots of Clinics and play days being offered as well as schooling shows.  As an Affiliate Organization, you can post your activities on the USAWE calendar, and also on the USAWE Region 6 FB page.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me at r6director@USAWE.org, and I will do what I can to help you.

Happy riding!
Kim Hillyer

ERAHC USAWE AO Report 9/15/21

ERAHC’s last USAWE approved show is done! The ERAHC WE Show Series results will be out soon!
Our returning judge, Doreen Atkinson, did an amazing job with the 38 competitors we had. This was the largest show to date for ERAHC. Doreen kept things moving at a very steady place so that we were able to do all the Dressage and then Levels 2-5 EOH all on Saturday (and we were done before dinner time!). Thank you, Doreen! We look forward to working with you again next year.

Show results may be found on the ERAHC website www.erahc.org.

ERAHC will now begin working on their 2022 show plans, so check back regularly.
See you next month!

August was an action-packed month of exciting Working Equitation activity for our Northern Virginia Working Equitation (NOVAWE) members. It started with our second 2021 schooling show held at Almeda Farm, August 7th, in Boyce, VA.
The 15 entries were blessed by beautiful weather. Britt Callahan on her Reason to Smile topped the Intro-Level 1, Group #1, and Joanne Masterson on Lucy was the Reserve Champion. Jeannie Whited topped the Intro-Level 1, Group #2, and Cindy Sikes piloted Bella to the Reserve Championship honors.
The top Tricolor in the Novice A-Level 2 were earned by Jennifer Hopton on her amazing Haflinger Noble Champion. Diane Hutchinson and Splash of Glory were Reserve Champion. The Biddie Lowry designed Ease of Hand course provided for a great test and a fun afternoon under judging of Allison Reed.
Three weekends later a large NOVAWE contingent traveled south to Lexington, Virginia to compete in the Eastern Region Andalusian Horse Club (ERAHC) B-Rated Show at the Virginia Horse Center. As we find in all WE events, the fun and camaraderie ran rampant. It was wonderful to network with other WE enthusiasts from far and near, many new to the sport. Patrick King, of Patrick King Horsemanship, recently relocated to Lexington Virginia with his wife Lisa King, was a sponsor of the show and stopped by to take in the Speed round on Sunday. Many of the NOVAWE riders are regular students of Patrick King, and it was great to have him stop in to watch.
Good ribbons of all colors were earned by NOVAWE members. Senior Judge Doreen Atkinson presided.

August/September– 2021

  • OSE has a “B” Rated show scheduled for October 9, 2021. Jill Malone will be our judge and Jeanne Bond will be the TD.  We are still taking entries.

Synergy WE was founded in August of 2021. We haven’t even taken the wrapper off, so to speak. Located in Upstate New York, in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region, Synergy was started to get people together with an interest in Working Equitation and to promote the sport in the area. There will be a few Play and Learn days in the remainder of 2021. For 2022 we can hopefully be a bit more ambitious, with a clinic or two, and perhaps even a schooling show later in the year. If you want to know more about Synergy, or how to join our activities, check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Synergy.WorkingEq. We’re excited to grow and develop a community!

Thanks,

Beth

Working Equitation of South Central PA has been relatively quiet since we are a new organization

We continue to Support Working Equitation and our focus is the “precursor” to your Working Equitation Training. Once again, we will have Mike Feister back to Hollyhurst Farm, LLC on September 24, 2021 for an all-day session and again the weekend of October 23 & 24, 2021. Mike focuses on Quality Horsemanship which is the beginning of every discipline including Working Equitation.  Preparing you and your horse is time well spent to help you achieve a more fluid ride.
