Regional Reports

R5 July 2021

By: Alex Tyson

Hello WE Friends!

Region 5 has been busy with shows and preparing for our first Regional Championship.

On June 12 and 13, there was a show at Brecksville Stables in Ohio where riders enjoyed a great weekend with judge Tarrin Warren.  We had more than 15 youth and adult riders in attendance from several states competing from introductory through masters levels.

On June 25, 26, and 27, there was a show in Michigan at Rach Riding Academy with nearly 20 youth and adult riders from Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.  Despite rain and very slippery conditions, the group was able to participate safely and with many personal successes.  Tarrin Warren returned to Region 5 for this show.

On July 3 and 4, the annual Independence WE-ekend show was in Illinois at Fox Valley Saddle Association.  Kim Roe was the judge for this show.  Despite hot weather, riders were in high spirits.  There were youth and adult riders competing from introductory through intermediate B levels.

There are opportunities throughout the region for riders interested in learning more about WE.  There are WE play days scheduled at Fox Valley Saddle Association (Illinois), practice sessions at KarMik Acres (Illinois), and a clinic scheduled in Minnesota (July 31-Aug 1).

Upcoming shows include:

July 24-25 – Show in Wisconsin at The Horse First Farm

USAWE Logo design by Alexandra Crippen of Crippen Designs.

The logo represents the four trials of Working Equitation and highlights the diversity for which the sport is known in the United States.

  • The first image depicts a mule, being ridden in Western tack and attire in the Dressage trial.
  • The second image showcases an Iberian horse in traditional Iberian tack and attire performing in the EOH trial.
  • The third image shows a horse of indeterminate breeding and a rider in English tack and attire, competing in the Speed trial.
  • Together, all three riders represent a team competing together in the Cattle trial. Although the cow is not shown directly, the three teammates are working in concert. The image is intended to elicit the feeling of excitement and movement as the team moves their designated cow toward the holding pen to the far right, off the page. (Think of it as a "silent cow", much as the letter "e" at the end of a word is often referred to as "the silent 'e'" in recognition of its existence without being read aloud).
