R2 March 2025 Updates

REGION 2 Director — Glynna Hoekstra

Hello Region 2!

Our Region continues to grow and excel.  Here is a report from Working Equitation Utah leader Aurora Quinn.  Great job Aurora and thank you for all you do to grow the sport in your State!

Working Equitation in Utah is growing! It started as several small clinics in the fall of 2024 and it has now grown into 30 competitor training shows.

Last fall Aurora Quinn started hosting training shows where participants could do a coached round where the judge or clinician that day coaches the entire ride and then had the opportunity to compete in a judged round.  This spring there has been such an overwhelming interest that the coached classes have been removed to allow for more exhibitors. The best part of the spring series is the buckle awards for each cumulative level winner at the final show!

It has been great seeing the interest and enjoyment for this sport grow! With a growing number of youth wanting to show, it is now being built into the Utah 4-H program. As the Judge At Large for the Utah 4-H program, Aurora Quinn is hosting an open youth and adult training show during the Utah State 4-H Horse Show in September.

A big part of what has helped grow the Utah program is help from Team Idaho. They have been incredibly kind and passionate about starting a Working Equitation community in Utah. With the help and encouragement from Team Idaho, there are plans to host a rated show this summer in Utah. Details are still being finalized, information will be shared later.
