Cattle Trial

The Cattle Trial is based on team penning, where each rider attempts to guide a cow into a pen within a set time limit. While not every competition includes this trial—due to the limited availability of cattle facilities—it remains a core element of Working Equitation, emphasizing teamwork, precision, and the skills developed in Dressage, EOH, and Speed.

Success in the Cattle Trial relies on all the fundamentals: dressage movements, control, agility, and strategic use of speed. It’s a favorite among competitors and spectators alike, showcasing the partnership between horse and rider in a dynamic, real-world challenge.

Detailed guidance for the Cattle Trial can be found in Section 8 of the Rulebook, which outlines expectation and scoring criteria.
